Web Designer
The National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON, Inc.), a nonprofit science corporation dedicated to understanding how changes in climate, land use and invasive species impact ecology, has an immediate opening for a Web Designer in Boulder, Colorado.
The Web Designer is responsible for designing, developing and maintaining dynamic user interface front ends in HTML, DHTML, CSS and Javascript in support of intranet and internet based scientific applications including support of wikis. The designer will develop web based graphics using standard graphics applications for creation of visual elements. The experienced web designer must interface with the user community and receive feedback on proposed designs and work with the software engineering team to create efficient and easy to manage software solutions.
Preferred qualifications include a minimum of 2 years experience with development of dynamic web based interfaces with a strong preference toward web application interfaces. The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in a related field, however, applicable experience may offset academic requirements. The candidate must have graphic design capabilities with experience in CSS based layout and support of multiple browsers with a basic understanding of Javascript to support browser functionality. Some knowledge of Linux administration and use of wikis and other Linux open source applications such as Postgress and MySQL is a plus. Experience in wilderness travel is also a plus. In addition, the candidate must be highly motivated with a “can do” attitude, have excellent communication and documentation skills, and work well in an unstructured, often high pressure environment.
