NEON Deployment Design
NEON CEO David Schimel invited a group of independent experts in research areas related to the core NEON science requirements to meet in Boulder, Colorado, the week of February 12. Using community responses to the NEON Request for Information (RFI) and the results of the EROS Data Center meeting in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the group evaluated candidate sites, gradients, and experiments. The focus was on ensuring that all recommendations contributed to the network’s capacity to address the Grand Challenge questions, based on criteria described in the RFI and NEON design documents, including the Integrated Science and Education Plan (ISEP). The result was a draft of the comprehensive NEON deployment plan.
