William (Breck) Bowden

William (Breck) Bowden is the Patrick Professor of Watershed Science and Planning in the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont and is the Director of Vermont Water Resources and Lake Studies Center. His work ranges from basic research on biogeochemical dynamics and primary production in aquatic systems to applied research on the impacts of urban development on stream ecosystems. Dr. Bowden has worked in three different NSF/LTER programs (Luquillo, Hubbard Brook, and currently the Arctic) spanning tropical, temperate, and arctic ecosystems. He is active in national research initiatives (LTER, CUASHI, NEON). Dr. Bowden currently leads an initiative to provide critical instruments supporting innovations in biogeochemical research in watershed science, as part of the CUAHSI Hydrologic Measurements Initiative. He also contributed to the development of technical information for instruments in the NEON aquatic array.
