Aimée Classen

Aimée Classen, an ecosystem ecologist, is a staff scientist in the Environmental Sciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and a research assistant professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her research group uses a combination of field, laboratory, modeling, and molecular methods to investigate the interactions and feedbacks among communities of plants, herbivores, and microbes and ecosystem processes. Her group investigates: (1) how multiple climate change factors (CO2, warming, and soil water availability) shape ecosystem structure and function; (2) how forest arthropods shape forest ecosystems; and (3) how microbes and plant functional genes predict ecosystem function. In 2007, served on the NEON site review team that visited the Yellowstone and Conservation Research Center candidate sites.
