Steven Oncley served on the NEON Site Review Team that visited the San Joaquin and Kerr/Shields candidate sites in 2007. He is a scientist in the Research Technology Facility of the Atmospheric Technology Division of NCAR. Dr. Oncley specializes in micrometerology, with a focus on the measurement of surface fluxes. He supports the Integrated Surface Flux Facility (ISFF), an initiative designed to study exchange processes between the atmosphere and the Earth’s surface. Facility operation includes the direct measurement of fluxes of momentum, sensible and latent heat, trace gases, and radiation, as well as standard atmospheric and surface variables. With multiple sensors and data systems, the ISFF can also measure horizontal and vertical gradients. The facility has been used in both Arctic and desert conditions.
