June M. Thormodsgard

June M. Thormodsgard is a USGS technical expert in satellite remote sensing and geographic research with qualifications in agency management and scientific leadership. She received a BS in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of South Dakota and an MS in Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. She worked as a mathematician in the Space Science Division of the Naval Research Laboratory near Washington, DC, where she conducted research on satellite radar altimeters and passive microwave instruments. In 1979 she joined the staff of the USGS EROS Data Center. In 1993 she assumed the leadership of a multidisciplinary team of scientists at the Center whose mission is to facilitate the use of satellite images by earth scientists and resource managers. In 2007 she served on the NEON Land Use Analysis Package Tiger Team.
